Siblings

Tyrell Malacia has no brother or sister as he is the only child born to the union between his Mum and Dad. Now, let’s introduce you to one of Tyrell Malacia’s Parents, his lovely Mum. She remains his first friend, best friend, superhero and biggest supporter.

Family and Early Life

Tyrell Malacia’s parents raised him in Hillesluis, a neighbourhood of Rotterdam. He grew up in the square of Hillesluis situated in Dutch’s second largest city. As a boy, Tyrell Malacia had so much energy in his body. Naturally, the Rotterdammer was a high-spirited kid with a contagious smile. here is a photo of Hillesluis, where young Tyrell spent his childhood days.

Aside from his parents, whom he is closest to, Tyrell Malacia grew up with Carlo de Leeuw. This person is his late grandfather, a man who made him fall in love with the beautiful game.

It is pertinent to state that Malacia hails from a difficult neighborhood in South Rotterdam. The neighbourhood where his parents raised him had many temptations which came from bad influences. At Hillesluis, bad friends make many good kids (sometimes) make dangerous choices and then go down the wrong path.

Hillesluis (South Rotterdam) football-loving kids often make mistakes because they never had the right people behind them. They would have gotten to the same level as Tyrell if they had strong family support. For this reason, Malacia is always grateful to his family. He is also proud to have made the right choices through the help of his parents and uncle.

Parents

The capricious wing defender hails from a middle-class Dutch household. Although he did not grow up in poverty, Tyrell Malacia’s parents had enough to live comfortably as middle-class citizens. His Dad and Mum could afford a home in the Hillesluis neighbourhood of South Rotterdam.

About Tyrell Malacia’s parents’ occupation, his Father is a football lawyer and agent, while his Mother is a homemaker. From the onset, the passion for the beautiful game runs into every family member, especially his dad and late granddad.

Back then, with their jobs, Tyrell Malacia’s parents didn’t always have it easy financially. Because of that, the Orange footballer vowed to give the whole of his first football salary to his Dad and Mum. Tyrell actually did that, as this was the money he earned after signing his first sponsorship contract with Nike.

Starting off, Malacia is not a person who talks about his private family life. However, he once opened up about a sad moment that completely turned his life upside down. In an interview with Voetbal International Magazine, Malacia opened up an old wound about his family. It all started after he finished a match during his youthful days. On that day, Tyrell Malacia’s Dad called and told him the following words;

HELLO SON, DON’T BE SCARED, MUM IS IN THE HOSPITAL.

At first, the Orange footballer thought there was nothing serious with his mother’s health. Unknown to Tyrell Malacia, his lovely mother had just suffered from a brain haemorrhage. The poor boy was inconsolable at the time he saw her lying down in pains at the hospital.

The left side of Tyrell Malacia’s mum’s face was totally paralyzed. And for the first time in the boy’s life, poor Tyrell saw his Dad cry. His father was scared of losing his beloved wife. In fact, the whole Malacia family thought they had lost a vital family member. Thankfully, it didn’t turn out that way.

At the time his Mum was recovering, Tyrell Malacia’s family suffered a second blow. Carlo de Leeuw, his grandfather, who practically taught him football died from a heart disease. Malacia’s granddad wasn’t even up to 70 when he died. And his death happened at a time his mother was rehabilitating. The truth is, these two back-to-back events (especially his granddad’s death) always hold sadness, even though he covers it with a contagious smile.
