PSG prepare last-gasp swoop to sign £150m Erling Haaland to replace Kylian Mbappe and form a devastating front three with Lionel Messi and Neymar
PSG are preparing their next move with Kylian Mbappe heading to Real Madrid
They are set to place a £150m bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland
Dortmund have a big decision to make – Haaland’s exit clause next year is £64m
Paris Saint-Germain are lining up an extraordinary last-gasp move for Erling Haaland to replace Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe is on the cusp of clinching his dream move to the Spanish giants, prompting PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino to turn to Haaland at Borussia Dortmund.
According to The Telegraph, the French giants are preparing to bid £150m for the Norway forward.
Haaland has been pursued by Europe’s elite across the summer transfer window with Champions League holders Chelsea and Manchester United both heading up the chase but he has seemed content to stay in Germany.
Yet the prospect of lining up alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar could prove too good to turn down for the 21-year-old.
Haaland is represented by super agent Mino Raiola, who PSG have contacted over the prospect of a late move in the window that closes on August 31.
Dortmund have been steadfast in insisting Haaland is going nowhere this year and the prospect of losing their star man with little time to replace him will be a discomforting thought.
Yet Haaland has a £64m release clause in his deal that kicks in next summer, which means Dortmund could not claim anything like the £150m transfer fee that is being mooted for him here.
From a financial sense, a PSG bid is worth being considered by the Germans.
Mbappe is on the brink of sealing a mega-money transfer to join Spanish giants Real Madrid
The arrival of Messi has made it a remarkable window for PSG, even if Mbappe departs
And a swoop for one of the deadliest strikers in the game would round off a remarkable transfer window for PSG, even if it includes losing Mbappe.
They swooped for Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum on free transfers as well as, of course, Lionel Messi. They also beat Chelsea to the signing of Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan.
Mbappe, meanwhile, has been the subject of two transfer bids from Madrid. While both offers have been rejected by PSG there is a growing belief that a deal is now within reach.
There is a feeling within the French club that the scrutiny over Mbappe’s future could distract from Messi’s PSG debut on Sunday night, away to Reims.
But a move for Haaland means that regardless of what the Argentina idol does in his first PSG appearance, the club’s work off the field will be a major talking point during the final weekend of the transfer window.
