Linet Munyali (born 4 August 1987), professionally known as Size 8, is a Kenyan singer, songwriter and actress. Formerly a secular artist, Size 8 is known for her singles “Shamba Boy” and “Moto”. In April 2013, she released her first gospel single “Mateke”. As an actress, she had a small role in the legal comedy Mashtaka.
Early life and career
Born on 4 August 1987, Size 8 was raised in Maringo Estate in Nairobi. She is the sixth born of six other siblings to a Ugandan man and a Kenyan woman, both members of the clergy. In her high school, she got a scholarship in State House Girls and was luckily to later join the Hillcrest School.
Career
Munyali was discovered by Clemo, a Kenyan producer and co-founder of Calif Records, when she auditioned locally and later signed on the Record label. She released “Shamba Boy”, “Silali” and “Vidonge”. As of April 2013, she confirmed to have crossed over to the gospel music industry, having been born again, and subsequently releasing her first single “Mateke”. She has released others like “Moto”, “Yuko na Wewe”, “Jemedari” and “Afadhali Yesu”.
Parents and family
Linet Munyali parents are Esther Njeri (mother) and Samuel Kirui Munyali (father). Both her dad and mom are from Kenya.
Linet Munyali was born and raised in Nairobi. Her family later moved to Maringo Estate in Eastlands. Size 8 parents, Esther Njeri and Samuel Kirui Munyali were part of the clergy, and their association with the church introduced her to Christianity.
In a recent documentary on NTV, Size 8 noted that although her family managed to take them to school, there were challenges. Conversely, the challenges did not stop her from excelling in education and getting a scholarship to one of the best girls’ schools in Kenya — the State House Girls’.
The Mateke hitmaker is from a mixed tribe family. Her father is from Uganda, and her late mother was a Kikuyu. During a peace campaign in 2017, Size 8 told her followers that she is a Bukusu. However, on multiple occasions, she has cleared the air on her tribe identity by stating that her ‘Bukusu’ identity was not by genetics, but integration.
Apart from Size 8 tribe mix-up, the talented musician is from a big family. However, most of her siblings prefer living a private life, apart from Simiyu Munyali.
Husband
Size 8 is currently married to her lovely husband, Samwel Muraya. They got married in September 2013. Together they have two children.
Marriage and wedding
Shortly after making a crossover to the gospel industry, rumours circulated about her relationship with a top gospel DJ — Samuel Muraya (DJ Mo). While the two did not comment on the rumours, they were seen in different events together. However, Size 8’s wedding in 2013 was a surprise. The “invites only” wedding was a mark of a new beginning of Linet Munyali. Although the details of their wedding remain unknown, the couple celebrates the anniversary every year in September.
Children
Size 8 is a mother of two — Ladasha Wambui and Muraya Junior. Like most young mothers, the singer has had her share of challenges, especially with pregnancies. Each of Size 8’s children has a story worth sharing.
When Ladasha was born, Size 8 was in the ICU. On a YouTube video, the singer confessed that this period was her lowest. She also lost her mother, shortly after giving birth to her firstborn.
In 2019, the couple had a second born. The birth of Muraya Junior also had a share of challenges. The boy was not born underweight like Ladasha but through caesarean delivery.
Did Size 8 have a miscarriage? Yes. Size 8’s lowest moment as a parent was losing a child in 2018 through a miscarriage. The couple has been open about it and more importantly, how the experience affected them. For example, the experience of losing the pregnancy almost led to divorce.
Net worth
Linet Munyali “Size 8” has an estimated net worth of around $400, 000 – $800, 000.
