Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo (born 18 April 1979) better known as Kcee, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was formerly in the Hip Hop duo group called Kc Presh. He is from Amaputu in Uli in Ihiala local government area in Anambra State Nigeria. He currently has a record deal with Five Star Music. He worked with Del B, a record producer known for producing Kcee’s popular song “Limpopo”. He is the elder brother to E-money.
Parents and family
Chief and Mrs. Okonkwo are his parents. His dad used to be a Professional DJ at during his early years.
Kcee was appropriately raised in a Christian home because his parents were Catholic believers. He thus routinely attended religious services with his siblings. Additionally, he comes from a hardworking family that values enterprise and education equally.
Emeka, Kcee’s younger brother, is popularly known by the moniker E-Money. He helped Kcee achieve his professional objectives and gave him money to start a solo music career.
His mother gave him her support and blessing when he decided to begin a career in music. His father, however, first opposed it since he wanted his son to pursue a career in medicine or law by attending college. Moreover, he thought that it’s so hard for young people to become well-known musicians these days music wouldn’t help him make any money. Nevertheless, Kcee decided to disprove his father, and finally, he brought home the first earnings from his concerts. At this point, his father changed his heart and agreed to let his son pursue his goals.
Notable among his sibling(s) are the Socialite and Businessman E-Money. The total number of his siblings isn’t publicly known as Kcee tries to lead an “under the radar” life, so it can be assumed that E-Money is his only sibling.
Career lifestyle
Kcee intended to become renowned initially, but not in the music industry. He loved playing football, and his greatest ambition was to play professionally. He was able to play for two neighborhood football teams in his youth, “Puma” and “Julius Berger.”
However, when Kcee joined the church choir, everything was transformed. He initially joined it just for pleasure, but over time he came to appreciate singing. Kcee was already aware of many different music genres and compositions because he was the son of a renowned DJ.
Kcee and Hajie became friends while they were both choir members because they shared a passion for popular music. They joined together to create the hip-hop group ‘KC Presh.’ In addition, the pair competed for and won the Star Quest TV reality show.
Kcee and his pal, this was the beginning of great things to come. After winning the competition, they were allowed to start their music careers. They combined on some more successful singles, which helped them land gigs at concerts and shows. With “Kennis Music,” the then-largest Nigeria record label, Kcee and Presh inked a big record deal. Later, they decided to leave this company and start their venture under the name “KP Records.” The label’s name was soon changed, and “Blingz Records” was used to rebrand it. The two singing pals released their ” No Time ” album under this label.” “Shokori bobo,” the leading single from this album, was released in 2008.
After some time, though, both musicians decided to go their separate ways and start solo careers.
Kcee’s 2012 release of the number-one single “Limpopo” rocked the industry. The song was a commercial hit and helped make Kcee very Popular. In addition, the track led to his nomination for awards. He received Song Of The Year at the 2013 Headies Awards for his artistry with “Limpopo.” Del B, one of the best producers in the industry, produced the track.
Following “Limpopo” with the track “Pull Over,” he continued his trend of popular songs. The Wizkid-featuring music was heavily played on radio and television stations worldwide. It was also chosen as one of the top ten club jams of the year.
2013 saw the release of “Takeover,” the gifted singer’s debut studio album. Thousands of units of the album were sold all over the world. After four years, after that, Kcee released his second Project, ‘Attention To Detail. Finally, after a little hiatus, 2020 saw “Sweet Mary J” released.
At 2014 The Headies Awards, Kcee was honored with the Hip Hop World Revelation Of The Year Award. In addition, he was nominated for the Artiste of the Year and Best R&B/Pop Album awards that same year.
Kcee agreed to a multimillion-dollar contract in 2013 to serve as one of MTN’s ambassadors. He was chosen to represent Nigeria as a peace ambassador by Dame Patience Jonathan, the former first lady. In 2015, he inked a contract with the company Magnum and entered into a new agreement with MTN the same year.
Wife and Children
He is happily married to Ijeoma Okonkwo. She is an Events Planner and CEO of Pixieworld Events. They got married in 2010. Kcee proposed to her in a Hot-Air balloon in Dubai.
Kcee married his wife Ijeoma, and their over 12 years of marriage have produced three children, bringing his immediate family total to 5.
Kcee’s three children are Kwemtochukwu Okonkwo, Kanye Okonkwu, and Somto Okonkwo.
