Well, that is a gift from our creator, God Almighty, because we grew up in the streets. We were not born with golden spoon or raised in so called Government Reserved Areas (GRA) because our father, a middle class man musician allowed us to mix up well with the people while weâre growing up. That helped us to pass through the street life, schools and from there; we came to know the exact happenings in the country today. We thank God for that and that is where our inspirations to write our songs are coming from always.
Umu Obiligbo released their first album âIfe Di Mmaâ on 11 February 2014, and released another EP âUdo Ga Diâ on 30 December of same year. They released another EP titled âAweleâ in December 2018 which featured Flavour in the hit track âAweleâ with videos shot afterwards. On April 9 2019, the duo released a hit track titled âCultureâ featuring Flavour and Phyno. On 16 November 2020 they released the album âSignature (Ife Chukwu Kwulu).â They were featured on a track in Basketmouthâs Yabasi soundtrack album and also featured on two tracks for Rattlesnake soundtrack with Larry Gaaga.
While growing up as you said in the streets, did it ever occur to you people that one day you will become music stars or something great?
Infact, that thought never came into our minds then. Weâre just living to survive and to be alive tomorrow. But what we will be, we never knew. And you can notice it from our songs. We used what we experienced that happened around us to compose our songs.
In 2018, they realeased their album titled Udogadi which means (peace will reign). They also featured Flavour in the popular hit song, Awele!.
