Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (born 26 July 2000) is a New Zealand actress. She rose to prominence and garnered critical acclaim for playing the lead role in Debra Granik’s 2018 drama film Leave No Trace. She has also appeared in supporting roles in Jojo Rabbit and True History of the Kelly Gang.
Early Life and Career
McKenzie made her acting debut in 2014, portraying the teenage Louise Nicholas in the television film Consent. In 2015, she played Pixie Hannah in the soap opera Shortland Street, and in 2016, she played the titular character in the children’s comedy web series Lucy Lewis Can’t Lose. She first gained recognition for her portrayal as a daughter of war veteran in Leave No Trace, for which her performance received critical acclaim and won her National Board of Review Award for Breakthrough Performance. Later on, she would be featured in a small role in The King, playing Queen Philippa of Denmark in 2019. In the same year, she played principal supporting role in satirical comedy drama Jojo Rabbit, where she plays a young Jewish girl hiding in the attic of the main character’s house (played by Roman Griffin Davis), for which she gained further recognition by critics and audience alike.
She was cast in Top Gun: Maverick, but dropped out in favor of other projects, such as crime drama Lost Girls. In 2021, she joined the television adaptation of Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life, playing the main character, Ursula Todd; co-starred in the thriller Old, by M. Night Shyamalan, and will play the lead in psychological horror Last Night in Soho. She is also set to portray American gymnast Kerri Strug in Perfect, directed by Olivia Wilde.
McKenzie lives in Wellington. She graduated from Samuel Marsden Collegiate School in 2018.
