Patrick Sennyonjo (born July 1, 2012) popularly known as Fresh Kid Uganda or simply Fresh Kid UG, is a Ugandan musician and artist. He is majorly a rapper.

Early life and career

Born on,1st July 2012 in Luweero, Uganda.

Ugandan wonder child Fresh Kid seems to have been through it all. The star rapper whose real name is Patrick Ssenyonjo is already a household name in Uganda at such a young age, with music awards, hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube, and a victorious battle with the government of his country.

The rapper whose talent was discovered while growing up in Luwero, a coffee-growing area of Kampala, became popular for singing about his parents’ struggles to provide for him and his siblings.

According to Reuters, Fresh Kid’s career really took off when Uganda’s Minister for Children’s Affairs tried to stop him from singing, based on the laws prohibiting child labour.

This singular act made him a national sensation, with many Ugandans criticising the minister for preventing the rapper’s rise. In defense, Fresh Kid then wrote “Bambi“, which was a plea to be allowed to sing and perform and later won the Best International Video from the U.S.-based Carolina Music Video Awards.

Fresh Kid’s advice to kids like him is; “Children should work hard. If you have a talent, use it.”

Fresh Kid now lives in Kampala with his family in an apartment he bought, and he attends an elite school on a full bursary

Manager Francis claims to have found Fresh Kid in a rural areas of Uganda miming some songs of Fik Famaica. He came with him to the Ugandan Capital, Kampala and started to nurture his music career and to study too. Manager Francis as the Manager was paying Fresh Kid’s school fees until he got a bursary from Rajiv Ruparelia to study at Kampala Parents School l, Manager Francis signed Fresh Kid under De Texas Entertainment. Fresh Kid’s parents fell out with Manager Francis over alleged failure to respect the contractual duties which made Fresh Kid to move from De Texas Entertainment to MC Events.

Controversies

The Ugandan Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi warned Fresh Kid from performing during school hours since according to Ugandan Labour Law ‘’no-one under 18 should work”.

Uganda’s constitution Article 59 clause 56 line 8 restricts young children below 18 from being used for any financial benefits.

Nakiwala stated that Fresh Kid would be taken to Juvenile prison if he disobeyed this law.
