Byeon Woo-seok (Korean: 변우석; born October 31, 1991) is a South Korean actor and model. He is known for his roles in Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency (2019), Record of Youth (2020), and Moonshine (2021–22), also gained widespread recognition for his leading roles in the film 20th Century Girl (2022) and television series Strong Girl Nam-soon (2023).
Career
2014–2019: Career beginnings
He rose to prominence in the entertainment industry with his debut as a model in 2014.
In 2016, Byeon made his acting debut portraying the character of Ha-jin’s boyfriend in the SBS historical drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
Continuing his acting career, Byeon took on a supporting role in the 2019 drama series Search: WWW, which further solidified his presence in the industry. The same year, he garnered praise from both critics and viewers for his portrayal of Do-joon in the JTBC’s television series Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency.
2020–present: Transition to lead role and rising popularity
In 2020, Byeon was cast in a lead role in the tvN television series Record of Youth as Won Hae-hyo, starring opposite of Park So-dam and Park Bo-gum.
In 2021, Byeon was cast in KBS2’s historical drama Moonshine. After landing the role of Lee Pyo as the rebellious crown prince, he was awarded Best New Actor at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards. In the same year, Byeon received his first leading role in a film with 20th Century Girl, portraying the role of Poong Woon-ho. The film premiered in 2022 and received immense popularity both domestically and internationally.
In 2022, Byeon received another offer to lead in the film Soulmate where he starred as the character of Hum Jin-woo, starring opposite of Kim Da-mi and Jeon So-nee. The film was released in theaters in 2023.
On July 19, 2023, Byeon was cast in tvN’s time slip fantasy drama, Loverly Runner in his first main leading role in television alongside Kim Hye-yoon. It is scheduled to premiere in 2024.
