Andrey Nascimento dos Santos (born 3 May 2004) is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for club Premier League club Chelsea, and the Brazil national team.

Career

At the age of four, Santos was introduced to futsal in an effort to lose weight. He fell in love with the game, and began playing as a defender, before being moved up to midfield during his time in Vasco da Gama’s youth academy.

On 6 March 2021, at the age of 16, Santos made his professional debut for Vasco da Gama as an 85th-minute substitute in a 1–0 Campeonato Carioca loss away to Volta Redonda. He would go on to make his league debut in a 3–0 Série B defeat away to Londrina on 28 November 2021. In the 2022 season, Vasco manager Zé Ricardo made Santos a starter in the team, propelling his career to new heights. He became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history on 7 June 2022, netting in a 3–2 Série B victory away to Náutico.

Chelsea

On 6 January 2023, Vasco da Gama announced that Santos had departed the club to join Premier League club Chelsea.

Loan back to Vasco da Gama

On 2 March 2023, he returned to Vasco da Gama on loan until 30 June 2023.

International career

Santos represented Brazil’s under-15s at the 2019 South American U-15 Championship. He has also represented his nation at under-20 level. Santos captained the under-20s en route to an undefeated title in the 2023 South American U-20 Championship, scoring a joint-top six goals during the tournament. In March 2023, Santos was called-up by interim coach Ramon Menezes for Brazil’s friendly away at Morocco, where he made his debut as a starter in a 2–1 loss.

His Father’s name is André Luiz, and his Mother is Jordania Gregoriano.

Santos wants to play with Casemiro
Andre has claimed that he hopes his son will have the opportunity to play alongside the former Real Madrid man at some point during the international break.

He said: “He looks a lot at Casemiro, it’s part of his position. Possibly they can play together for a few minutes there.

“Andrey is very sure of things. He knows where he wants to go, he has goals, projects, his head is focused. It’s been an evolution, step by step. For everything he has been developing in the national team since the under-15s. It’s an award, with good results. Down to the ground, wisdom.”

Andrey Santos’ ancestry is a mix of European (Portugal), Native Brazil and African (through his Dad). His Mother bears a Portuguese family name, Nascimento.

Santos spent his boyhood days alongside his sister, Andressa. Since their early years, these two were both playmates and confidants, siblings who did help eachother grow in their respective careers.

Andrey has no biological brother as his sister Andressa is his only sibling.

Wife

On Sunday night, 7th May 2023, Andrey Santos tied the nuptial knot with his girlfriend Yngryd in a private ceremony in Brazil.

The 19-year-old midfielder who joined Chelsea in January for €12.5m shared pictures of their wedding on his social media page.

Yngryd, meanwhile, wore a more traditional white dress and heels combo.

The loved-up duo were surrounded by smiling friends and family as they officially tied the knot.

Santos penned a romantic letter to his new bride after their union was confirmed:

“You are very special to everyone, everyone is delighted with your way of being, at the beginning of our relationship I was impressed with your beauty, your character, your humility, the way you treat your parents, and your good heart,” he wrote.

“From the first day I met you, I felt something different. You were a gift from God in my life, I was sure it was you.

“Everything was happening very fast, and with a lot of intensity and with a lot of love!!

“But God was always ahead! I thank God for having sent a gift like you, on which I want to build our family, our children, have our home, and live our dreams, projects and grow together, always side by side.”
